The science behind health and keeping healthy has been widely studied and continues to be explored. In this expedition the experts on the topic came up with many theories for the common man to understand what is good and what is bad for his “HEALTH”.
The knowledge thus imparted came to form a belief in an individual about his health system. Today this factor of belief has two options in the health field. One option is the conventional medicine where doctors treat you and tell you what’s good for you and you continue to listen to them. The other is the traditional and holistic form of medicine, the more recognized term being “Alternative medicine”.
Alternative medicine on a broad spectrum includes a whole lot of forms of treatment.
This particular blog represents AYURVEDA – an alternative form of therapy and health.
Ayurveda: The word literally means – science of life.
The story – Millions of years ago when the Human race in India became advanced enough to analyse reason and convey their thoughts, they begin to put down rules for living a quality life. To put down rules they needed a script. They chose the Devanagiri script to do so. The language they invented was Sanskrit. So in Sanskrit and devanagiri they wrote the Vedas. The word Veda in Sanskrit means knowledge. Thus they wrote their knowledge for their successors to follow. They wrote about what clothes to wear, how to talk, how to behave, code of conduct, regulations about public behaviour, personal sanity, mental sanity, values etc. They wrote everything about how one should lead his life happily. Living life happily included living life healthy. That section of the Vedas that covered the health and medicine was later separated out as Ayurveda.
Those many years back the human being was very close to the nature since that was the only option he had. He knew what the cold did to his body, he knew what the heat did, he knew what anger did to him and he knew what happiness did. Being unbound by the stresses of today’s world his mind engaged in studying what small things in life do to him. He engaged himself in studying what plant does what to his body, which plant grows when and where. When he suffered from any illnesses he figured out all the possible ways that could have caused this and worked on them so that he was fine.
He represented intelligence in the form of observations, experimentation, analysis and conclusion. Ayurveda thus was compiled as text of the nature and the human body, their interactions and how nature can help the human being when in need.
Many many years later men started to study these texts and try out different things written in them. The science amazed them and their curiosity. They wanted to know more. Something better, something faster. They devised equipments, chemicals, procedures that were highly efficient. Then they revised the information and made it more and more advanced. The advancement of this knowledge lead to the applications changing routes. The origin of these aplications failed to remain the original principles. The techniques got beyond the understanding of a common man. Health of self became beyond common man.
Today the common man has another chance at it. He is trying to understand health all over again. The universe regulates the rules for the betterment of the man kind.
In this knowledge chase Ayurveda has a lot to offer. After all it was originally written for the common man.
ABOUT AYURVEDA:
आयुर्वॆद, : Literaly translates as the 'science of life'. This science is native to INDIA. The origin follows a mythological story about the Lord Dhanvantari, who received his knowledge from Brahma—the Hindu God of creation. The literatures from the VEDIC PERIOD ( the time when the Vedas were written) give you the earliest literature describing AYURVEDA.
Ayurveda believes there are Five basic elements forming the universe and therefore the human body which are: Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space The human body is thus a minuscule representative of nature. In more specific terms Ayurveda explains the human body with following parameters........
1. Seven constituent elements of Body....... SAPTADHATU......Ras (Chyle), Rakta (Blood), Mansa (flesh), Meda (fat), Asthi (bone), Majja (marrow),and Shukra (Semen)
2. Three Doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha
3. Three Mala : meaning waste products.
"Good Digestion , and proper excretion are the parameters to attain GOOD HEALTH" emphasied in AYURVEDA an ancient thought given long back. These parameters are known to all for general wellbeing in todays world where they are based on extensive research.

Five basic elements are not earth, water, fire, air and space. they are pruthvi, aap, tej, vayu, aakash.
dont let our terminologies change. next thing will be gases for vaat, bile for pitta, sputum for kapha. not being too critical but mistakes should be corrected before they turn big.
kaay chikitsa is not internal medicine. vaajikaran is not sexual viality. (some polite comments)
With due respect to the above comment over the use of terminology,in my opinion is immaterial as long as meaning is concerned. For exp. Aishwarya Rai is now Aaishwarya Bacchan,so the terminology has not at all changed the proper identity of Aishwarya.Anciet insights say Haridra is Pramehaghni by so an so property and modern discoveries say curcumin in Curcuma longa is anti diabetic by so an so property, basic understanding dosn't change.Earth can be better understood by layman than Prithvi.......IMAGE IS SAME
Thank you for your comments.
Perception of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic concepts faces a large diversity today
The science is open to the students to analyse and apply to the best of their knowledge in the field of Ayurveda. We would like to revisit Ayurveda through this blog with the help of the thinking minds in Ayurveda. We welcome the comments to realise why prithvi mahabhoota is different from earth. What is lacking though is an acceptable explanation to this.
Vedarambh would want to know why they are different. It is a platform to put forward Ayurveda with evidence based terminologies. It’s high time someone discusses this. After all these are our fundamentals.
Putting Ayurveda and its concepts in words and the thought process behind it is the aim of the discussion. Looking forward to receiving something from the thinkers associated with this topic. Ayurveda is being questioned and here is our time to answer. We owe it to the science.
Thank you
With due respect to comments by Swapnil, I dont think he has got my point. Ayurvedic nomenclature is what I insist. Pruthvi and Earth are totally diffetent things. Same applies to other mahabhoot. I think we should explain to a "LAYMAN" what r the properties of pruthvi(paarthiv dravya), examples of paarthiv dravya, what r d conditions in which paarthivatva increases or decreases in the body. Then d so called layman will know what is pruthvi.
Now just tell me Swapnil if u say pruthvi is earth is the layman going to understand everything. And if u will have to explain what exactly do u mean by earth by mentioning its properties and all then why cant it be done under the name of pruthvi. what is d need to use non ayurvedic terminology.
yes I do agree with u Amey regarding the terminology but that should not be stressed so much. Acharya Vagbhatt says "ka nirmantre vktrubhedokti shakti".As.Hr-utr. sthana 40
The power of word does not change even though vakta or language change unless it is is mantra. If i am using oil(thaila) for nervous disorders like hemiplegia(pakshaghata)I am not disobeying the path of Ayurveda,
